Calcium carbide classing measurement case
The Calcium Carbide measurement method is the most reliable determination of moisture content in materials and also the only legally valid method.
The technique is mainly used for substrates such as sand-cement floors. Using the (supplied) hammer and chisel, a sample can be taken from the material to be measured. This sample must be put (pulverised) into the pressure cup along with a carbide ampule. The reaction between the ampule and moisture will cause acetylene gas to be produced. By measuring the gas, the moisture content of the sample can be determined.
